Residential Services

Home Sweet Home, a home where they understand you, where friends gather around the dinner table, where holidays and birthdays are celebrated, and where guests and family are always welcome.

People's needs and wants are carefully considered before a residential placement is recommended. Some may be perfectly suited for one of our Individual Residential Alternatives (IRA), which are supervised around the clock by highly skilled staff members. Each staff member is required to have a valid NYS Driver's License for transporting people to and from medical appointments and recreational activities. In the IRA setting, individuals can enjoy quiet time in their own bedroom or join their housemates to watch the game in the living room. Our well-maintained houses are situated in quiet neighborhoods throughout Seneca and Cayuga Counties. Each is home to a small group of people whose ages, interests and levels of ability are similar. A ranch-style house in a suburban setting may be perfect for people with physical challenges. A home within walking distance to restaurants and stores may be just the thing for a few young friends who wish to live together. While ARC staff assists residents in pursuing individual interests and hobbies at home and in the community, they also provide the support, instruction, and guidance to help each person live as independently as possible.

Just knowing someone's there can make all the difference for a successful living placement. People who are interested in more independent living can enjoy their own Supervised Apartment with a roommate, knowing that staff is just down the hall, providing support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Individuals learn responsibility for managing their time and keeping their apartment clean and neat. Mastering public transportation and gaining access to community supports helps each person to build their self-esteem and independence. This option, available only in Cayuga County, is located in Auburn and is convenient to shops, stores, restaurants, and places of worship.

When you're ready for the next step, a viable option may be living in one of our safe, comfortable and conveniently-located Supportive Apartments. Whether people decide to live alone or choose a roommate, every apartment provides each person with their own bedroom. Each person will receive guidance with bill paying, suggestions for meal planning, and oversight where banking is concerned. The support is geared toward individual needs and may occur daily or as little as twice a week.
